What is a Director ID?

A director ID is a unique 15-digit identifier for Australian directors. The number is unique to the individual, this means that you will only have to apply once even if you are a director of multiple companies you will have one ID that you will keep forever. (like a sole trader ABN or individual TFN).

What is the purpose of a Director ID?

The director identification number will help verify company activity and management by preventing fraudulent identities and making director involvement in companies over time more transparent. At this point in time director IDs will remain private information and will not be searchable by the public however.

Any director of an Australian company will need a director ID at some point in time, the roll out specifies different timelines for obtaining one depending on what stage of ‘directorship’ you are in.
