ABN Registration

How to apply for an ABN, the information you will need and the support to maintain your ABN.

Should I cancel my existing ABN?

You should cancel your ABN if:

  • The business has been sold
  • It has closed down
  • Your business structure has changed
  • You are no longer operating in Australia

Prior to cancellation you must ensure that you are up-to-date with lodgements and reporting obligations, such as activity statements, PAYG and GST reports.

By cancelling the ABN you will also be cancelling GST, luxury car tax, wine equalisation tax, fuel tax credits and the Auskey attached in the same process. You must cancel PAYG before ridding of the ABN.

The easiest way to cancel your ABN is by using your Auskey on the ABR website. Alternatively you can call the ABR on 13 92 26.
