Trusts

Need help setting up a trust? We've got you covered with range of tips for both discretionary and unit trusts.

Does a trust require an ABN?

In many cases a trust will be created as a business structure in itself. This is especially true of discretionary family trusts.

If you intend to carry out an enterprise/business activities under the trust then it is most likely that you will need to obtain an ABN. Of course, the usual criteria for determining ABN suitability apply.

If you satisfy any of the following points, you must register an ABN:

  • The trust will have an income of at least $75 000 per annum (and must also register for GST)
  • It intends to issue invoices and receipts
  • You would like to open a trust bank account
  • The trust intends to pay employees (and must be PAYG registered)

You can include ABN registration in your trust creation package with EasyCompanies.
